KTA Super Stores has tipped off of its annual Score for Scholarships program to support University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans Athletics.
In its 13th year, Score for Scholarships awards funds to the Vulcans athletic program based on per-game achievement by its student athletes. Customers are encouraged to purchase specially labeled products from participating brands.
The funds raised support the KTA Score for Scholarships Endowment Fund, which goes toward offsetting costs for tuition, room, board, books and other academic support services for student athletes.
“KTA’s Score for Scholarships program is an investment in the future toward our hometown,” said Barry Taniguchi, KTA Super Stores chairman. “It really is a win-win scenario for customers to save on their groceries while helping our University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans athletes pursue a quality education.”
Since its start, the Score for Scholarships program has generated more than $200,000 in funds.
As a show of support, the public is invited to KTA Puainako from 4-5:30 p.m. today to meet student-athletes from the UH-Hilo athletics program.
The store will give away 1,000 complimentary game tickets to KTA customers while supplies last.
To kick off this year’s Score for Scholarships program, KTA SuperStores also will present a check for $15,800 to UH-Hilo athletics during the event.
